  • A Vanity Makeover

    A Vanity Makeover

I rehomed a vanity that was my mother’s a couple of years ago after my aunt moved. It has been sitting in my bedroom acting as a catch-all since. I recently decided that I would like to set it up, alongside a nyx travelcase I bought off a local auction site (I got it for about $40 and it retails online for $500. A total steal!), and start getting ready there in the morning.

First step was to paint the vanity. I decided I wanted it to be pink, incredibly pink, so off we went to Lowes to buy paint. I ended up choosing a paint called Flower Power. I got the furniture/cabinet paint because it said there was no need to sand or prime when using it. It did take several coats of paint, but the wood was quite dark, so that is not super surprising. Here are some before shots of the vanity and the top of the stool.

Here is some part of the way shots. This was 1-1.5 coats in.

The final product with Nyx Case set up beside and ready for me to get reasy in the morning! I am so in love with this. I will be adding more decoration, but I am so happy with how this turned out.

Day 2 – Beautiful Freaks Fest

Not as dark as some, but today I decided to create a pair of actual beautiful freaks. This is an altered journal page. Enjoy the Amazing Lafontaine Sisters.

    Magickal Monday – Grimoire Thoughts

I have a problem with Grimoires (Books of Shadows, Mirrors, Light, etc.). My problem is that I never know what to include. I don’t want to treat it like a journal, but I also don’t want to make it impersonal. It is a struggle for me. I am getting ready to jump back into it again, and I am trying to decide what I want from my grimoire.

In the past I have done a lot of copying from books, and adding pages from the internet. I really do not want to do that again. I want something more personal. I am thinking that rather than regurgitating what I find online, or in a book, I should be recording my personal take on things.

Molly Roberts has a couple of amazing videos about this. This video and this one are both good starting points to giving your grimoire a makeover.

I am going to go back over some pages I have made that I am not very happy with. I will share what those look like as they happen.

    Art, crafts and other creations

I had the day off to allow for our plumber to come and replace our vanity in the upstairs bathroom, so I got a little crafty. I had some charms that I had bought to make myself a charm bracelet and I finally took the time to put it together. The charms were tiny tea cups, saucers and such, so I bought some complementary charms and created what I am calling my Mad Tea Party Bracelet.

I have not made myself a piece of jewelry in years and I am really happy with the turn out.

This weekend is going to be a long haul of painting and finishing up the minor repairs necessary to finish our refinancing of our house.  Among these things is the painting of the porch floor to black, and eventually coating it with glitter epoxy. Because a black glitter porch is the best thing I can imagine.

  • Writing Challenge – Day 27

    Writing Challenge – Day 27

Day 27: Conversely, write about something that’s kicking ass right now.

I am in the middle of a time of burgeoning creativity. I can feel ideas and thoughts bubbling up in me all the time, and it feels amazing. I love the times in my life when I feel ready at any minute to write something, make something, paint something, or re-purpose something.

For me, creativity comes and goes in waves. I am lucky that I do have the ability to force creativity when I need to, but this free flowing abundance of creative energy is always a treat when it comes to call. Although, it does lead to the unique and wonderful problem of what I should work on first. All this creative energy can be overwhelming in the best possible way.
