  • Witch Walk 2020

    Witch Walk 2020

On Halloween around the stroke of Noon, witches descended upon Goodale Park in Columbus Ohio in order to make merry and celebrate the Day. After grabbing a group picture we began walking down High Street in the Short North wishing a Happy Halloween to all we encountered. We stopped at Prologue Bookstore for some of our witchy companions to purchase tomes, and then at Roaming Goat Coffee to get a Mocha Latte for myself. We continued across the street to Rocket Fizz for old fashioned candy and novelties (I bought a racing possum!). We passed a salon where we waved to a fellow witch who was giving a blow out to a client.

We stopped to grab a bite at The Eagle where I ordered a Grilled Cheese that features three kinds of cheese and apples, yum! It came out in the shape of a heart. Aww! Next a trip to Torso where I purchased a mask that says “Witch Please”, a gorgeous rhinestone mask and a bracelet that matched my witchy garb. A quick run back to prologue and then we made a stop at Bakersfield for a Margarita and a $3 shot of Hornitos.

We witches can make a day of it!! Happy Haunting my friends until next year!

  • Hallowest 1: District Of Darkness

    Hallowest 1: District Of Darkness

On Friday Night, we ventured down once more to District West where we passed through the cobwebs and curtain festooned hallways to enter into the haunted world of Hallowest 1: District of Darkness. This show was a coproduction of Virginia West and Krystal Something Something, and as always it did not disappoint. It was 2+ hours of non stop entertainment that ranged from campy to scary to just straight up hysterical.

The opening number featured Virginia, Krystal, and the full cast as Zombies. Riley Poppyseed gave us a magical striptease as a conjure man. Selena T West as the scariest of all horrors, a Karen. Then after being served a PSL by an unsuspecting Barista she evolved into Mega-Karen, complete with onscreen level up graphics. Robyn Daculture was a masked demonic prom queen. Virginia gave us the Kiss of the Spiderwoman. Krystal and Cast were Zombie Strippers to Living Dead Girl.

Bootsy Lefaris, a former protegee of Virginia who was in town to preform in The Sanderson Sister’s: Witch Perfect the following night, sang Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror in a guest spot. The absolutely beautiful Bianca Debonair paid tribute to The Bride of Chucky. Amanda Sue Punchfuck (one of my favorite drag names) was the fly on the VPs head. Virginia West as Nurse Ratched with her cast of nurses and doctors danced through “Blood in the Cut” by k.flay. Followed by Brent Fabian belting out Metallica as Pinhead from Hellraiser.

    V. Master Chad rocked their Trick R Treat themed segment. Followed by Terrence Brown as the (Sweet Sugar) Candyman. Krystal Something Something was a murderous teen in a Sleepaway Camp parody. The amazing, but super active so it was hard to get pictures Boyonce led a Sabrina the Teenage Witch piece. Then the W Girls danced their way through Wonderland, but were also difficult to photograph. I did catch a shot of the amazing Maria Hypes as the Red Queen showing off her flexibility. Sexy werewolf Alexander Chang-Reavis rocked out with his pack.

The Bride Virginia and Brent’s Frankenstein Went through some of Streisand’s greatest hits. Brent’s facial expressions were killing me. Krystal got exorcised, and Eris Grey channeled Kathy Bates for an Annie Wilkes piece. The final two Sanderson Sisters closed the show with Tammy Spanx singing “Creep” by Radiohead and Tina Burner, complete with Rhinestone pea soup vomit, preformed an Exorcist based piece.

The quality of the shows by the West Family never ceases to astound and amaze. I cannot wait for the next one!

  • Duchess Squad Spooky Basket Exchange – Part One

Sunday was the first annual Meeting of the Duchess Society Spooky Basket Exchange and Luncheon. We met at my friend Susan’s house in our finest Duchess regalia. I had retooled my blonde wig from Saturday into a more Duchess like form. The Lady Penelope Perspicacia Pamplemousse of LaCroix was in her spooky best when she arrived for the party.

After we dined, but before the exchange we had a mini photo shoot in the side yard. We formed a “band” called The Strumpettes. We had too much fun with Snapchat filters. We laughed a lot. Here are some of the fruits of our labor.

The Wayward Duchess, The Cuntess (She named herself I promise), Lady Honoria (Rhymes with Gonorrhea) Teapot and myself had such a lovely time. I will get pictures of my amazing basket to share soon.

  • Medieval Monster Mash at the Forge

Medieval Monster Mash at the Forge

Saturday night I went with my Sister, Traci, and our friends Susan and Liz to The Forge Tavern for their Medieval Monster Mash starring Jameson’s Folly and special guests Fiendish. The Forge had a wonderful set up that allowed for safe play in times of Covid. Out table’s theme was witches, so we decided to dress as the witches of American Horror Story: Coven. I was Fiona Goode, Traci was Zoe Benson, Susan was Nan and Liz was Misty Day. Liz was in the running for Best Costume, but got an honorable mention instead. Our table got an award for having a great theme. Which was awesome, but wasn’t why we were there.

Jameson’s Folly was on fire, and they were dressed as Joe Exotic (Chance), That Bitch Carole Baskin (Jennifer) and a Tiger (Johnna). Chance even managed an Irish step dance in cowboy boots. Then Fiendish took to the stage which was made up of our favorite three whiskey witches from the Renaissance Festival. They were also amazing and I am excited to hear more from them in the future.

My sister and I shared a Rum flight, which lead to us finding one we are absolutely going to have to purchase, the waitress also said there is a Mermaid on the bottle which makes it even better.

  • Thoughts on Halloween Season 2020

    Thoughts on Halloween Season 2020

This year it is hard to find my full Halloween spirit. Halloween is my favorite holiday, but I am just not feeling the spooky spirit as much this year as in years past. I know there are a lot of reasons that it is harder this year: pandemic, about to start a new job, water heater replacement suddenly, oh and did I mention a pandemic.

Yesterday my manager wandered over and told me that she saw someobe who was challenging my place as queen of Halloween at work because she was wearing a Halloween dress, with leggings and socks; I was wearing a pair of jeans and a goldenrod blazer. It made me think about how I have not been wearing a lot of my Halloween stuff this year. It seriously hadn’t occurred to me until she brought it up.

I am going to try to find my Halloween happy this week and next. I have a Halloween party on Saturday that I am pulling together a costume for which is getting me into the spirit a bit. I am also going to be pulling together looks for a couple of witchy meetups and Halloween shows, so I predict the spirit beginning to show itself soon.

I really hope so. I miss casually spooky me. 🖤👻💀🕷🦇🎃🔮

  • Spooky Box Sent…no true spoilers

My gift for my partner in the Spooky Basket Exchange went out today, and because the box is so cute I thought I would share. I seriously doubt that my partner reads this but just in case this is the only spoiler.

How cute it that? It is also filled with goodies and on its way. I kinda want to go get one for myself. My second exchange is Sunday, so more Spooky Basket goodness to come. 👻

  • My Pre-Halloween Streaming

My husband and I have been doing some spooky movie/ tv show watching over the last couple of weeks and there have been some seriously fun and good ones and some fun and terrible ones, but here are some of the standouts for me.

Little Monsters (Hulu): Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely radiant in this zombie horror film about a field trip gone wrong. Also features Josh Gad in a role that had to be so much fun to play. It was campy, good horror comedy. Highly recommended.

Zomboat (Hulu): This is another zombie based horror comedy, but a series this time. It is funny, very British, and only one season 6 episodes so very bingable. Hoping there will be a second season because ot os genuinely fun.

Night of the Demons (Amazon): This movie was released in 1988 and it is a good old fashioned 80s slasher flick. I want the goth bride outfit from this badly. So bad it is good. Stars Linnea Quigley, which is a plus.

Fright Night (Amazon): The original 1985, which I have seen before, but have renewed my love for. Chris Sarandon is wonderfully smarmy. Posits the theory that Vampirism makes your hair grow to be longer and a different color. Roddy McDowall overacts to raise the dead.

The Cabin in the Woods (Hulu): I admit I am late on this one. I watched it because one of my podcasts (Talk from Superheroes) was discussing it and they highly recommended not spoiling the film. It was a very entertaining film. Superb twists throughout.

We have watched more, but these are the ones that stood out. Have you been watching scary/halloweeny movies? What are you watching?

  • What a (creepy) doll…my new Halloween wreath

My little sister made herself an amazing Halloween wreath earlier this month, and after I admired it she offered to make me one. I accepted at once and this morning she delivered my new door wreath. I am absolutely in love with my creepy evil doll wreath.

Thank you so much, Traci. It made me squee! I am so excited to show it off.

  • Witches of Betsy Past

I have dressed up as a witch more than any other costume in my life, so today I decided to photo drop as many Betsy as a witch photos as I can find. This is not nearly all of them, just the ones I could find.

  • Halloween Roller Skate Crate

I got an ad for the Roller Skate Crate Halloween Edition and immediately I decided I needed to order it. It arrived today and I am not at all sad I ordered it. I got so many cute Halloween skate accessories, which I will use all year round because that is the kind of girl I am. It included a pair of green laces, some Halloween lace charms, a set of vinyl spiderweb toe caps, a ghostly skate leash, and some super fun stickers.

Now I need to go deck my skates out for the holiday!!
