  • Gruss vom Krampus!

    Gruss vom Krampus!

Columbus has over the past couple of years really embraced the darker side of Christmas which has led to a prevalence of Krampus related activities. This year the first day of December was marked with the second annual Merry Krampus craft show and the Fourth Krampus Walk sponsored by a local pagan shop, The Magical Druid. The International Wenches Guild Local 73 decided to plan an invasion of the Krampus events.

The Merry Krampus was held at Strongwater and featured many alternative craft vendors. I had splurged and bought early bird entries for myself and Seth which gave us an hour of shopping before the show was opened to general public. I bought a beautiful hand printed calendar from Midwest Mermaid and an amazing wrought iron wand from Rust Wolf. I ran into some friends who were vending and selling chain maille and knives. My Madame of Vice, Sarah, and I got our pictures taken with Santa and Krampus.

We then headed down to Clintonville to participate in the Krampus Walk. We had a pretty good turnout of wenches, and had a wonderful time parading down the street all dressed up. We were photographed a lot, and made quite an impression. Obviously I chose to go for more of a Krampus look, and I had a great time.

General consensus is that we are mostly naughty, but a really good time. Happy Krampusnacht!!

  • Welcome December…Blogmas Day 1 on Day 2

It is officially the holiday season!! I have been making little purchases here and there for a month, but now it is here and the decorations can finally go up now that Santa has paraded into Herald Square in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Here is a small collection of things that I purchased before I consider it acceptable to do so, lol.

I realized coming into Thanksgiving that I have 39 pairs of holiday socks. How? Why? So this year I decided to do 35 days of holiday socks beginning the day before Thanksgiving and going through the end of the year. So far I have worn brown stripey reindeer socks, snowflake socks, rampaging holiday dinosaur socks, Santa riding a unicorn socks, Argyle with a fleece cuff and holiday sloths.

The day after Thanksgiving Seth and I headed down to my hometown Newark (30 miles east of Columbus) for the lighting of the courthouse. Newark has a beautiful historic courthouse, and they go all out when they light it. Santa and Mrs. Claus are given a ride to the courthouse square on a firetruck, and then they lead everyone in carols for a bit. When the time is right they ask the children to make as much noise as possible to light the courthouse. It almost always takes three tries somehow. Now for the before and after.

  • Camping in the Summer and Midsummer Masquerade

Camping in the Summer and Midsummer Masquerade

My husband and I spent the weekend camping in Caeser Creek with some friends so that we could attend Midsummer Masquerade at the grounds of the Ohio Renaissance Festival.

Friday it was ninety some degrees and about 150% humidity on Friday when we arrived for camping. We got set up and only melted slightly in the heat and insanity. We had to borrow a tent from my sister and brother-in-law because ours was apparently stolen from our garage at some point. Their tent is a 9 person cabin, so it was huge! I could get used to that.

Saturday we woke up, went to a flea market (It was big and fun and shockingly Trump-y) and then waited for our fellow campers to arrive. They finally arrived, set up, we went to dinner, and then got ready for the Masquerade. My friend Susan decided we should do a glitter part and since I am always willing to do anything glitter I was in. I chose to do a fine red and then thicker gold toward the middle. I used a brick red eye shadow to create a mask style makeup. Since it was so hot I wore a cute fancy bra with a cropped bodice and a skirt for a belly dancer look. I felt super cute!

The Masquerade was already in full swing when we arrived, but we got to watch the beautiful dancers of Lunar Rhythms, the daring fire work of Reverend X and friends and the comedy musical piracy of The Varlots. I also bought glow in the dark bat hair clips and punk doll head earrings that made me ridiculously happy courtesy of Mirabellaz Menagerie . Then we went back to the camp to have a fire thanks to my lovely Eagle Scout, Seth.

  • I Got to Attend A Body Positive Pool Party!!

I Got to Attend A Body Positive Pool Party!!

About a month ago an event popped up on Facebook. It was created by a group called the Fat Babes Club of Columbus and the event was called Body Positive Pool Party. I was immediately interested. Then my friend Sarah asked if anyone was going so she and I made a plan to go together. We waited eagerly for more information. So when one Saturday morning at 7 am I was waiting for  mom and sister to pick me up so we can go garage saleing and a notification came that tickets were on sale I immediately snatched up two tickets. Then I found out that my friends Julie and Megan would be coming too. This was going to be so much fun!

Saturday I threw on my Harry Potter bathing suit and met Sarah in the parking lot across the street from the Westerville Jaycees Pool. When we got to the door they were not quite open yet, as they were still clearing the pool of daily visitors. We were the first people to begin forming a line into the event. By the time the gates opened there was a nice sized line behind us, and the party was ready to begin. My id was checked and a blue heart was drawn on my hand to show I was old enough to drink and in we went.

Immediately into the party room there was a bar to the left and beside it was a table loaded with raffle items. As you walked through you passed a table with little bags of chips, cookies and pastries. Once you got out by the pool there was a DJ set up spinning vinyl all night and the pool was full of fun inflatables. Sarah and I claimed some chairs and then hit the bar.

The bar had sodas, natural light strawberry lemonade, bud light and several flavors of white claw. I am a fan of white claw so I started with a raspberry. I moved to the raffle table and they had some amazing raffle items: gift baskets from local businesses and companies, make up sets, skincare sets, and more. I bought 15 tickets for $10, and put them into the drawings for a basket from Wild Cat Gift and Party, Uproar by Babe Roar, Urban Decay, Benefit Cosmetics and a couple of others I have forgotten.

I got a tattoo this week which was stupid honestly since I knew I had a pool party this weekend, so I decided that I would not “Swim” but would get in the water keeping my arms out. I got in and there was this adorable unicorn floaty that I decided I needed to get on. Some lovely ladies helped me and I floated for exactly 2 seconds before the unicorn bucked me off and I was fully energed in the pool. Oops. Not intentional, but still What the Hell, Unicorn? I watched him buck several others as well, so it was obviously nothing personal.

Julie and Megan arrived around 8:30 or so, and I lounged beside the pool drinking while they swam and chatted with me. Sarah got pulled into doing some footage for the people who were video recording the event. She went down the slide about 3 times, and ended up doing some under water and jumping in shots.

They called the raffles at 9:45, and Julie won a package of facial cremes etc, and I won the Benefit Cosmetics Brows before Bros set. It had eyebrow powder, a pencil and a filler along with a pore shrinking primer and a They’re Real lip stick in Lusty Rose. I was so excited!

There is going to be another one in August and you know that if I can I will go again.

  • Welcome 2019…let’s make this a f@#king amazing year!

Welcome 2019…let’s make this a f@#king amazing year!

It is the last day of 2018, and what a wild, crazy year this has been.

We visited my friends Jen and Chris in Pittsburgh, and they took us to visit the National Aviary. We saw Puddles Pity Party at the Southern Theatre.

In the Spring my husband and I took a trip to Wisconsin to visit The House on the Rock. I had wanted to see it since the first time I read American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and we decided to head that way to see it. It was amazing and wonderful, we wondered around for almost four hours and still don’t think we saw everything. We also visited the Cave of the Mounds, Mount Horeb the Troll Capital of the World and the lovely little town of Spring Green.

I took a trip with The Lady Gang to Put-In-Bay. I saw a whole lot of drag shows including: Stadium Virginium Pop, Wonderful World of Nina, Heroes and Villains, Heels of Horror, and Nina and Virginia’s Christmas Pageant. I went to a bout for Ohio Roller Derby. Walked in a Color Run. Went to the Ohio State Fair with my mom and both of my sisters. Helped to establish an Ohio chapter of the International Wenches Guild. Went to a bunch of brunches. Bought a season pass for the Short North Stage, and have seen a bunch of shows with my friend Susan.

On top of all this amazing I am officially done with school as of December 23, and will graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in English – Creative Writing in February. That is how you move into 2019 in style.

Tomorrow I will let you know what my word for 2019 is, and maybe share a peek of my year in review Tarot.

    Goodbye 2018.

    Happy New Year!

    Betsy

Things I love Thursday – Go Team!!

I will be walking in a 5k this weekend called the Cheddar Challenge at a local Dairy Farm. We have participated in this 5k for a couple of years, and it is seriously fun. You get a milkshake, and cheese samples. The course takes you through the barns and by the baby cows. It is so much fun.

Our team for this race consists of myself; my husband, Seth; my sister, Traci; and my mother, Karla. We are The Lactose Intolerants. I laugh at that stupid name every time. Last night, I made the team shirts for everyone.

After the race we will grab a shuttle down into the Yellow Springs Street Fair. Yellow Springs is a wonderful little alternative community just outside of Dayton Ohio. There are beautiful galleries, lots of little shops, and a generally lovely feeling to the whole place. This is the town where Dave Chappelle lives.

At the street fair I know we will find our absolute favorite soap company, Elder Forest Soap. We swear by Katie’s soap, as well as her salves, and natural deodorant. I am so excited to renew my stash.

This is a photo from our team in 2014. I can’t find a more recent one.
