  • Halloween Roller Skate Crate

I got an ad for the Roller Skate Crate Halloween Edition and immediately I decided I needed to order it. It arrived today and I am not at all sad I ordered it. I got so many cute Halloween skate accessories, which I will use all year round because that is the kind of girl I am. It included a pair of green laces, some Halloween lace charms, a set of vinyl spiderweb toe caps, a ghostly skate leash, and some super fun stickers.

Now I need to go deck my skates out for the holiday!!

  • Macabre crush – Vincent Price

    Macabre crush – Vincent Price

I was two when Thriller by Michael Jackson was released. My older sister, Krystie, knew the song terrified little baby me, so she would play it on a loop to keep me out of our shared bedroom. I never knew what it was that scared me so much until I was older and realized that it was Vincent Price’s voiceover.

So…you would think a child who was terrorized by his voice might have grown up to resent the man, but on the contrary I grew up as a great lover of Vincent Price. From his appearances on The Muppet Show to his amazing dark films he is beautiful to me. I have a large pin of him on my Leather Jacket, and honestly I am watching a A Comedy of Terrors as I type this.

Some of my favorite Vincent Price performances are the Edgar Allan Poe based movies from the 50s-60s (House of Usher, Pit and the Pendulum, The Raven, etc.), The Last Man on Earth, and The House on Haunted Hill. I also love the narration he did for the Tim Burton short “Vincent.”

Do you have any strange/macabre crushes? I have a lot honestly.

  • Magical Days, Madrigal Nights – Part 2

Magical Days, Madrigal Nights – Part 2

My husband and I’s 8th wedding anniversary was on the 6th. To celebrate we bought feast tickets to the Magical Days, Madrigal Nights event happening at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. We also decided to indulge and do the Witches of Willy-Nilly Whiskey Tasting.

The Whiskey Tasting was fun and delicious, for $35 per person you get 7 shots of whiskey including a premium shot. The girl seated beside me, Becca, was absolutely adorable and we had a blast toasting and fist bumping our way through the drinks. My favorite was the black barrel, as was Seth’s but there honestly wasn’t a bad one in the mix. The witches sang an amazing conjuration song, and regaled us with whiskey facts as we got drunker and drunker, oops. I gave out several cards for the IWG to fun ladies, and I hope they join us.

We met up with some other wenches after that and walked around to kill time. We got soft serve (with sprinkles), I bought a walking stick/crook, and we had a nice conversation with the glass artists about commissions and cats.

Then we headed back to the feast. While we were waiting I snapped a picture of an adorable gnome and got my photo taken with the witches who I just love!

The feast was delicious, but I forgot to take photos of the food. There was entertainment throughout including the faire’s improv troop made up mayhem, the queen’s choice singers, the witches and the pirates. It was very entertaining, and once the feast was over we headed home.

These Magical Day, Madrigal Night events are not exactly like a ren faire day, but they keep the spirit alive. Huzzah!!

Spooky Basket Exchange #1 – Received

I was getting ready to head out to the Magical Days, Madrigal Nights at the Ohio Renaissance Festival when I received a message telling me that my Spooky Basket had been left at my door. I ran down to check and what awaited me was beyond my expectations.

My buddy, Jessica, made me a witch hat decorated in pinks, purples and teals (my favorite colors). She also got me some Hocus Pocus eyelashes, a minty lipgloss in a black skull, a halloween throw for cold october nights and some adorable spooky ephemera. I love every piece, and have already begun to assemble a costume around the amazing hat. 💙💗💜

  • Friday Night Karaoke in Newark

    Friday Night Karaoke in Newark

My little sister, Traci, texted me at work yesterday afternoon to see if I would like to come down to do Karaoke at The Bootlegger in Newark. I love Karaoke so I headed that way after work.

The Bootlegger is a nice bar located in the building underneath the Crystal Ballroom (where I used to perform occassionally in my teens with Encore Productions). It has a gin joint feel in the best possible way, which they encourage with a large portrait of Al Capone.

We both started the night with an Apple Butter Mule which was Crown Apple, butterscotch schnapps, and ginger beer with a caramel rim. It was delicious, and something I will have to try replicating at home. We also tried their Barrel Cider which was very good as well.

I started my Karaoke night with We Belong by Pat Benetar, then Traci and I dueted with Tribute by Tenacious D. I followed that with Brand New Key by Melanie. Traci did a song by Miranda Lambert that I don’t know the name of. I finished the night with Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi.

Overall it was an amazing night! Thanks for the invite, Traci. I needed that.

  • Spooky Podcasts for the HAlloween Season

I love Podcasts! I am subscribed to so many and everything from True Crime to Education. These are my personal recommendations on the best podcasts to listen to during the Halloween Season.

Spooked: This is the 5th season of the Spooked podcast presented by Snap Judgement and WNYC Studios. Host Glynn Washington hosts as guests relate their scariest experiences. With beautiful music setting the moods the stories are frightening, poignant and very spooky. I have listened since the first season and I just love this podcast. Stand out Episode: Lost In Time…the mural story.

Exile: Kelly Nugent, one of the hosts of the podcast Teen Creeps, writes, produces and stars in this creepy, horror tale of a post apocalyptic world and a girl facing it on her own. I am really enjoying this world, and the full story is available now for your listening pleasure.

Parcast Presents: Halloween: Hitting on various topics this series is made specifically for the season. Dig in and get into the spirit of the season.

Ghosted by Roz Drezfalez: Roz is fascinated by all things supernatural and invites others on to tell their personal stories. There are ghost hunters, an exorcist and Elvira herself among the many guests. Roz is infinitely charming, and the show is super entertaining. And seriously check out the Elvira episode, and the episode with My Favorite Murder’s Karen Kilgariff.

Are you listening to any good podcasts this Halloween?

  • My Halloween Purchases…so far

I love, love, love shopping during Halloween season! I get some of my best home goods during this time of the year. I haven’t gone as crazy in 2020 as I have in past years, but I have still bought some fun things.

From Michaels: I bought several pieces from their pastel line to live on my self-love altar.

From Home Goods/Marshalls the other day I bought a couple of pairs of Betsey Johnson Halloween Earrings.

I have picked up other little odds and ends, but nothing super fun and exciting. The season is not over yet, though.

  • Countdown To Halloween

    Countdown To Halloween

I bought a wooden Countdown to Halloween from Michaels, and while I am a little late I finally got it painted and ready to go. Better late than never, right?

It began as just a plain brown house with drawers.

I painted the house black and the drawers various pastel colors: pink, purple, yellow, green and orange.

Then I went back and added black and glow accents on the drawers and the roof. It is day time so I will get a glow picture later, but here is the final product.

I had so much fun putting this together. I am going to run to the store for filler tonight. Plus gifts for my spooky basket buddies because of course I am doing not one but two Halloween basket exchanges. I may have a slight Halloween problem.
